The Suz is an *avid* Bingo player–usually attending two games a week, sometimes three. Not church-lady bingo where you play for money…ok, pennies…but bingo for prizes. Prizes appropriate for her crowd….which could be anything from a new comb to a king size candy bar to the jackpot prize of a $5 gift card for McDonald’s.
That’s right: McDonald’s! So you can see why she wants to be in-it-to-win-it! *smile*
I’m thinking about my upcoming trip to Chicago and researching restaurants there…so of course Rick Bayless and his restaurants keep coming up…

What a fun night in the theatre! This is an old-fashioned farce. Plenty of sight gags…. foreign accents….mistaken identities…an over-bearing father… a nervous young man…flirtatious aggressive women…a cheeky hotel clerk….the list goes on and on. This was a show where the entire audience roared with laughter again again….and the director was smart enough to pace the show to allow for these waterfalls of laughter.
No–despite the word ‘tenor’ in the title–this is not an opera. Or even a musical. It’s a comedy set back in the 1930’s. A famous Italian tenor is coming to Cleveland to sing with the local opera company….and all sorts of craziness happens when this large, loud opera star and his wife meet up with the star-struck and love-struck locals. There’s lots of physical comedy and bits-of-business, and all the comedy–spoken or otherwise–stays in that nice, family-friendly 1930’s vein….so this is definitely a show you can feel comfortable bringing all the family to, young and old.
Stanley Tucci makes his Broadway directorial debut with this show….and he’s brought along a wonderful cast–including a few other famous names: Anthony LaPaglia (“Without a Trace”), Tony Shalhoub (“Monk”) and Justin Bartha (The Hangover)….which should help you if you need to convince someone to come see a show with the word “tenor” in the title. (Especially Justin Bartha if it’s a teenager or twenty-something male you’re trying to convince.) And convince them you should—this is a very fun night at the theatre—-so by all means, catch it if you can!
